Silvio Rodríguez Revisits Five Decades of Songs in His Concert at Roig Arena

The Cuban singer-songwriter Silvio Rodríguez performed tonight at Roig Arena in a concert lasting nearly two hours, taking the audience through different stages of an artistic career spanning more than five decades.

Throughout the evening, the 79-year-old troubadour combined some of the greatest classics from his repertoire with more recent compositions. From his earliest albums, he performed emblematic songs such as "Sueño con serpientes", "Pequeña serenata diurna" and "Quien fuera". There was also room for tracks that helped cement his popularity, including "Escaramujo" and "Ala de colibrí".

One of the moments of greatest connection with the audience came with the performance of three of the most representative songs from his mature period: "Eva", a reflection on curiosity and freedom; "El necio", a statement of fidelity to one's convictions that has become one of the most recognized songs in his catalogue; and "La belleza", performed alongside his wife, musician Niurka González, and their daughter Malva Rodríguez.

The concert also highlighted the artist's enduring creative vitality. Throughout the night, several compositions from his most recent works were performed, including "Historia de las sillas", "Noche sin fin y mar", "Viene la cosa" and "Nuestro después".

True to a format in which music and literature coexist naturally, Silvio Rodríguez also reserved a space for spoken poetry. During the performance, he recited "Halt!", a poem by Cuban poet Luis Rogelio Nogueras.

For the finale, the artist saved two of the most anticipated moments of the evening. One came with "Ojalá", arguably the most popular song in his repertoire, and the other with "Por quien merece amor", which brought the concert to a close after a performance defined by a journey through some of the most representative compositions of his career.
