Roig Arena Auditorium will host, on June 13, a tribute to the legendary Arena Auditorium, one of the most influential venues in Valencia’s recent musical history, which positioned the city within the national and international live music circuit throughout the 1980s and 1990s.
This tribute revives the spirit of the original venue and brings it into the present with a programme that reconnects with the musical identity that defined that era. Immaculate Fools headline a bill that also marks the reunion of two cornerstone names of the Valencian music scene, Comité Cisne and Glamour. The festive character that always defined the venue will be represented by Los Inhumanos, who will perform their special concert “30 Hombres Solos”, while Neon Collective will provide a contemporary take on that sonic legacy. The event will be rounded out by DJ sets from José Coll and Luis Bonias.
This was Arena Auditorium
If a city’s cultural value could be measured by the scale and quality of its concert agenda, Valencia played in the top league for nearly two decades. Between 1983 and 1999, Arena Auditorium — along with its adjacent venue, Garage, located on the upper floor — turned the city into a must-stop destination for major national and international pop and rock tours.
Virtually every relevant artist of the time passed through its stage. In annual polls by specialist music magazines, Arena Auditorium frequently ranked among audiences’ favourite venues. It hosted unforgettable album launches and visits from artists on the verge of becoming legends.
The stage welcomed names such as Ramones, Nick Cave, Iggy Pop, Depeche Mode, Radiohead and The Pretenders, among many others. On the national front, Arena Auditorium hosted landmark performances by Radio Futura — who recorded their iconic live album there — as well as Loquillo y los Trogloditas, Seguridad Social, and Alaska y Dinarama. The final concert held at Arena Auditorium was by Maná on November 11, 1999, bringing to a close an unrepeatable era that still lives on in the city’s collective memory.
