80s Nostalgia Floods Roig Arena With Discoteca De Los 80’s

  • Ryan Paris, Samantha Fox and Alphaville are some of the great icons of 80s music who took part in the show

  • The 80s aesthetic was also strongly present in a performance marked by technological display

This Saturday, Roig Arena activated its time machine to take a musical journey forty years back. On the stage of the multipurpose venue, for the first time in a 360º format, some of the most iconic voices of the 80s paraded to celebrate one of pop’s golden decades.

The 80s journey, organized by the production company Sharemusic!, began around 7 p.m. with Ryan Paris and his italo disco hit “La dolce vita”, followed by a succession of great 80s tracks in disco format. This musical interlude between live performances continued throughout the show.

Paris was followed by the new wave and post-punk of “Nowhere Girl”, with Steve Hovington of B-Movie singing about the pain caused by emotional disconnection from the world. “There’s an incredible atmosphere tonight. Everyone is dancing. I love Valencia and this is the biggest venue I’ve ever played. It’s awesome,” said Hovington moments after his performance at Roig Arena.

If there’s one major icon of the 80s, it’s Samantha Fox. The British singer got everyone dancing with “I Only Wanna Be With You”, “Nothing’s Gonna Stop Me Now” and the hit “Touch Me (I Wanna Feel Your Body)”. Miko Mission continued the celebration with his popular tracks “How Old Are You” and “The World Is You”.

The Spanish touch came from Iván, who brought back the international hit “Fotonovela”, while P. Lion took the stage with “Happy Children”. He was followed by Fancy’s eurodisco sound with “Bolero” and “Flames of Love”, and Silver Pozzoli’s danceable “Around My Dream”.

A new musical interlude preceded the performances of FR David and the German group Bad Boys Blue. Italo disco returned to the stage with “Don’t Cry” and “Tonight” by Ken Lazlo, while Brian Ice created a melancholic atmosphere with “Talking To The Night”.

CC Catch got the whole Roig Arena singing and dancing, serving as a fantastic prelude to the grand finale with Alphaville, performing their timeless anthems “Big in Japan” and “Forever Young”. The chords of the latter brought the pulse of the present back to Roig Arena.
