The Timeless Charm of Roxette Shines at Roig Arena

  • The Swedish band returns to the stage ten years after their last tour, joined by Swedish superstar Lena Philipsson, replacing the late Marie Fredriksson.

  • “Sleeping In My Car,” “How Do You Do!” and “Listen To Your Heart” were some of the songs featured in the concert.

Almost a decade after what seemed to be Roxette’s final concerts, the Swedish band made a comeback last night at Roig Arena as part of their new international tour.

They did so without the iconic Marie Fredriksson, who passed away in 2019 due to cancer, but with her legacy very much alive. The other half of the band, Per Gessle, decided to revive the Roxette project alongside Swedish superstar Lena Philipsson, who rose to fame in 2006 thanks to her Eurovision performance. The new duo brought back the timeless charm of Roxette’s music to the stage.

The “Roxette In Concert” tour celebrates the duo’s history and magic. At Roig Arena, Gessle and Philipsson were joined by original band members Clarence Öfwermann and Jonas Isacsson, as well as Christoffer Lundquist, Magnus Börjeson, Magnus “Norpan” Eriksson, and Dea Norberg. The show by one of the most successful pop acts of all time began around 9 p.m., with fans immersed in a wave of nostalgia.

The concert revisited the group’s most iconic hits. It started strong, with the legendary “Sleeping In My Car” as the second song, and continued with timeless tracks like “It Must Have Been Love,” the widely known “How Do You Do!”—popularized by its appearance in Pretty Woman—and “Joyride.” One of the most emotional moments of the night came when the Swedish band performed the Anthem of the Valencian Community, to the audience’s surprise and ovation. After playing “Listen To Your Heart,” “The Look,” and “Queen Of Rain,” they closed a concert to remember.

The Roxette concert was a journey back to the 1980s and 1990s, when the Swedish duo dominated the airwaves and left an indelible mark on their fans’ memories.
