Baiuca Blends Galician Tradition and Contemporary Electronica at the Roig Arena Auditorium

  • The Galician artist presented tracks from his latest studio album, "Barullo."

With a nearly full Roig Arena Auditorium, Baiuca presented his musical proposal this afternoon at the Valencian venue—a project that fuses the essence of Galician tradition with elements of contemporary electronica. The Galician producer performed tracks from his latest studio album, “Barullo” (2024), while also revisiting hits from his two previous works, “Solpor” (2018) and “Embruxo” (2021).

The recital kicked off around 9:00 PM with performances of “PAEQB” and “Rachafaldra,” two tracks from “Barullo,” his most electronic album to date, featuring a sound closely tied to clubbing culture. These were followed by “Alentejo,” “Luar,” and “Sísamo”—the latter being one of the most melodic compositions in his repertoire, performed in collaboration with Antía Ameixeiras. In “MonteViso,” Baiuca takes a popular Galician folk song and updates it with electronic textures, while in “Diaño,” he revives the mythological figure of the Galician diaño, a mischievous and mocking character deeply rooted in folklore.

For two hours, Galician tradition and electronic avant-garde coexisted in an extraordinary symbiosis. Bagpipes (gaitas), tambourines (pandeiretas), and muñeiras intertwined with beats and synthesizers that expanded folklore into new territories. In “Meigallo,” Baiuca evoked the imaginary legends of meigas (healers) and witches, while “Solstício” represented a fusion of Galician and Portuguese musical traditions.

The final stretch featured a particularly emotional and festive sequence: his personal ode to “Morriña” (nostalgia); the tribute to Galician and Asturian folklore “Veleno” —which in its studio version features Rodrigo Cuevas— and the celebrated “Ribeirana” and “Baile.” These two tracks brought the audience to their feet, proving that traditional Galician music not only survives but is reborn through a contemporary lens that projects it onto a global stage.
